Das erste Zeitfahren bei der diesjährigen "Großen Schleife" führt über 33 Kilometer durch die Normandie. Da die Strecke nahezu flach ist, müssen die Fahrer ein enormes Tempo halten können, um am Ende um eine Top-Platzierung mitmischen zu können. Das begünstigt klar die Spezialisten wie Zeitfahrweltmeister Remco Evenepoel und seinen Vize Filippo Ganna. Der Belgier trat in dieser Saison bereits zweimal gegen die Uhr an und gewann beide Male: bei der Tour de Romandie und beim Critérium du Dauphiné. Der Italiener siegte beim Tirreno-Adriatico-Einzelzeitfahren.
